Tonight I’m heading to Cairo for a six-day trip to Egypt and Jordan. I’ll be accompanying the presidents of leading US travel associations as we meet with tourism officials in Amman and Cairo, and visit iconic destinations like Petra and the Giza pyramids.
The “Restoring the Journey” trip is an opportunity for US travel leaders to show their support for Middle East tourism, and to investigate travel safety concerns in Egypt and Jordan.
I’ll be posting updates on Twitter and Facebook throughout the week. Look for the hashtag #SafeME (“Safe Middle East”) on Twitter.
Several bloggers are currently traveling in Jordan and Egypt, or plan to head there soon (see below for a list). Their websites are a great source of information for travelers considering a trip to the region.
For more information on the “Restoring the Journey” trip, read my prior post, “Is it safe to travel to Egypt and Jordan?”
Resources for travelers
Jordan appears to be the latest blogger hotspot; a number of influential travel bloggers are heading there in the coming months. The following list includes several bloggers who are visiting Egypt and Jordan in April and May. Stay tuned to their websites for photos and posts about their Middle East trips.

Safe travels Leslie! Looking forward to read your updates with #SafeME.
thanks for the shout out!! Having a great time here in the Middle East.
Great group of travelers going through Egypt and Jordan now! Dan and I were guests of the Jordan Tourism Board in early March – we criss-crossed the country for two weeks and never faced any safety concerns.
We’ve posted our articles from our experiences in Jordan here: http://www.uncorneredmarket.com/category/middle-east/jordan/
Thanks Audrey! I’m checking out your Jordan posts now. Just got back from the Middle East. I was impressed by the friendliness of the people and the ancient ruins at Petra and Jaresh.
Cool! We’ll just miss you. Please add us to your list as we will be blogging/Twittering and Youtubing our Soultravelers3 visit to Jordan in May ( 10th through 18th). I am pretty sure we are the only family travel bloggers going at this time as guests of Jordan.
We’re in Penang now, but head out to Singapore, Bangkok, Bhutan and Jordan on our way back to Europe for the summer.
Have fun!
Hi Jeanne! I am adding you to the list of Jordan bloggers now. Have a wonderful time!

I am so excited for your experience to begin! Def be safe on your trip and take it all it, its going to be an amazing experience!
Hi Alyson, Egypt and Jordan are quite safe right now. Not having any problems or safety fears. You would enjoy it here!
Can’t wait to read your postings about your trip!
Have a safe and fun trip Leslie, looking forward to ur updates. 🙂
Thanks Sarah! I’m posting photos on Twitter using the #SafeME tag. Loving Egypt and Jordan 🙂
Looking forward to following your trip Tweets, Thanks for sharing the #.
It’s an amazing trip! I’m encouraged by the friendliness of ordinary Egyptians. They truly want tourists to come back and are very welcoming!
I had an amazing time travelling through the Middle East last summer – when I went, Syria, Jordan and Egypt felt safer than some places in my own city, even when I was travelling as a woman alone. The people were friendly and welcoming, and despite recent world events, I really doubt that’s changed much! Looking forward to reading your updates.
woohoo! have fun girl.. see you soon;)
