Street art photo of the week: Hooded angel by A.S.V.P.

Is this the dawn of robber chic? This poster by artist A.S.V.P. combines the ski mask and scowl of a 1980s NYC mugger with adorable hearts and an angelic halo.

It makes me a little nostalgic for the “wildings” of years past– although I was in elementary school when groups of teens supposedly terrorized strangers on city streets. Most of my knowledge of the practice comes from the classic film, “The Warriors.”

This wheat-paste poster grabbed my attention when I was walking down Third Avenue in the East Village. It’s plastered near the shuttered remains of Cosmic Cantina, a burrito joint popular with NYU students.
